Ingredients

Making macarons can be a tricky process, but if you have the right ingredients and follow the instructions, you can make perfect macarons every time! For this chocolate macaron recipe, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 2/3 cup almond flour or almond meal
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 3 large egg whites
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Chocolate ganache for filling (optional)

Instructions

Now that you have all of the ingredients you need, it's time to start making your macarons. The process can be a bit intimidating at first, but with a few simple steps, you'll be a macaron master in no time!

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
  2. In a medium bowl, sift together the almond flour, confectioners' sugar, and cocoa powder. Set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg whites and cream of tartar until they form stiff peaks.
  4. Slowly add the granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt to the egg whites and whisk until combined.
  5. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the egg whites until combined. Do not over mix.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a pastry bag fitted with a plain round tip. Pipe the mixture onto a parchment-lined baking sheet in 1-inch circles, leaving about 1 inch of space between each circle.
  7. Tap the baking sheet lightly on the counter to remove any air bubbles.
  8. Bake the macarons for 18-20 minutes, or until they are firm and lightly golden brown. Let cool completely before removing from the baking sheet.
  9. Once cooled, carefully match up the macarons with a partner of similar size. Spread a layer of chocolate ganache on one half of the macaron, then press the two halves together to form a sandwich. Repeat with the remaining macarons.
  10. Enjoy!

Nutrition

This recipe makes about 24 macarons. Each macaron contains approximately 88 calories, 5.6 grams of fat, 6.7 grams of carbohydrates, and 1.7 grams of protein. If you are using a chocolate ganache filling, this will add additional calories and fat.

These macarons are a delicious and indulgent treat that can be enjoyed as an occasional dessert. They are not suitable for those who are allergic to almonds or eggs.

If you are looking for a healthier alternative, you can try substituting the almond flour with ground oats or oat flour and replacing the granulated sugar with a natural sweetener such as honey or agave nectar.

These macarons are best enjoyed the same day they are made, but they will keep in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To serve, let them come to room temperature before enjoying.
